Accessibility Statement
Our Commitment to Digital Accessibility
BuildMyPlace is committed to providing an accessible and user-friendly online experience for all customers, including people with disabilities. We want visitors to be able to explore products, review information, manage their accounts, contact our team, and complete purchases with as few accessibility barriers as reasonably possible.
Our efforts are guided by the Americans with Disabilities Act, commonly known as the ADA, and the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, commonly known as WCAG.
Understanding the ADA
The Americans with Disabilities Act is a United States civil rights law that prohibits discrimination against people with disabilities in several areas of public life. Businesses that provide goods and services to the public must provide people with disabilities with equal access to those goods and services, including services offered through digital channels.
The ADA does not use the terms Level A, AA, and AAA. These levels come from WCAG, which provides technical guidance for making websites and digital content more accessible.
BuildMyPlace considers accessibility an ongoing responsibility. As website content, technology, products, and customer needs change, we will continue reviewing and improving the online experience.
Understanding WCAG Levels A, AA, and AAA
WCAG is developed by the World Wide Web Consortium, also known as W3C. It explains how websites can be made more accessible to people with visual, hearing, mobility, speech, cognitive, and neurological disabilities.
WCAG has three levels of conformance:
Level A
Level A includes the basic accessibility requirements that address major barriers preventing people from using a website. These requirements may include providing text alternatives for meaningful images, allowing website functions to be operated using a keyboard, using correct page structures, and avoiding content that may cause accessibility or safety concerns.
Level A is the minimum WCAG level. However, meeting only Level A may not address many common barriers experienced by users with disabilities.
Level AA
Level AA includes all Level A requirements, along with additional standards that improve the usability of website content and functions. Level AA commonly addresses areas such as:
-
Sufficient color contrast between text and its background
-
Clear and visible keyboard focus indicators
-
Proper labels and instructions for forms
-
Consistent navigation and page structure
-
Accessible error identification and correction
-
Text resizing and responsive content
-
Captions for applicable prerecorded video content
-
Descriptive headings, links, buttons, and controls
BuildMyPlace is working toward aligning its website with applicable WCAG 2.2 Level AA success criteria. This is our primary accessibility target because it covers a broad range of practical barriers that may affect online customers.
Level AAA
Level AAA is the highest WCAG conformance level. It includes all Level A, Level AA, and Level AAA requirements. These criteria provide additional support in areas such as enhanced contrast, expanded media alternatives, advanced reading assistance, and more accessible authentication.
Full Level AAA conformance may not be practical for every page, product, document, or type of online content. BuildMyPlace may apply selected Level AAA practices when they are appropriate and reasonably achievable, but we do not claim that every part of the website meets Level AAA.
Accessibility Measures at BuildMyPlace
Our accessibility efforts may include improving image alternative text, headings, product information, links, forms, menus, buttons, keyboard navigation, focus visibility, color contrast, video content, and compatibility with common assistive technologies.
We may also conduct automated accessibility scans, manual reviews, keyboard testing, screen-reader checks, and evaluations of new website features. Because automated tools cannot identify every accessibility issue, human review and customer feedback remain important parts of our process.
Some third-party applications, payment services, plugins, embedded content, downloadable documents, or external websites may be outside our direct control. We encourage third-party providers to offer accessible experiences, and we will work to address known barriers where reasonably possible.
Need Assistance or Want to Report a Barrier?
Accessibility is an ongoing process, and some users may experience difficulties despite our efforts. Should you have trouble accessing information, using a website feature, or completing a purchase, please contact us.
When reporting an issue, please include the page address, the feature or content involved, the type of difficulty you experienced, and the assistive technology or browser you were using, when applicable.
